19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with former mentor Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to question if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour title, took control to create a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
